A food and output diary for life with a stoma. It reads a photo of your meal, keeps a simple log, and shows you what your own logs say.

A couple of taps, and it remembers for you

Everything in the app is there because it helps with that, and nothing is there because it looked clever.

Reads a photo of your meal

It names the foods on the plate and tells you what is usually said about each one: which tend to thicken output, which loosen it, which can cause wind or odour, and which are worth chewing well.

Keeps a simple log

Drinks, output, bag changes and meals, a couple of taps each. No forms to fill in. Everything is saved on your phone first, so it works without a signal.

The hydration screen: 1,900 of 2,500 ml, one-tap buttons for water and electrolyte

Notices patterns

Over a few weeks it looks at your own logs and shows what it finds, plainly: "loose output followed pasta four times out of five." Counts, not verdicts.

The Triggers tab: pasta, watery output followed 4 of the 5 times you ate it

What it doesn't do

  • It doesn't diagnose anything, and it isn't medical advice. Your stoma nurse and your doctor know you. The app only knows what you've logged and what's generally said about a food.
  • It doesn't decide for you. It tells you what is usually said, and what your own logs show. What you do with that is yours.
  • It doesn't guess. A photo shows what's on top of a plate, not what's stirred into a sauce. When the app can't be sure, it says so.

Made at a kitchen table

  • StomaCompass was built by one man to make his mum's days with a stoma easier. Keeping track of what suited her and what didn't had become a job in itself, and eating out had turned into a worry.
  • He wanted her to have something in her pocket that remembered for her, so she could get on with her day. Once it worked, there was no reason she should be the only one to have it.
  • Nothing in this app constitutes medical advice and should not be taken as such. This app is designed for improved quality of life. The food information in the app is from stoma care teams' advice and stoma care documentation, delivered in a way you can more easily understand.
